William Petersen Inks Contract For Another Season of CSI

Seems to be William Petersen Day in the news today as the articles just keep on rolling in!

Earlier today we stated that we wouldn't be surprised if this was William Petersen's last season on CSI considering the latest news regarding his theatrical appearances scheduled for the 2008-2009 season. Looks like our speculation was premature, as it has just been announced (via TV Guide's Ausiello Report) that William Petersen has signed on for at least one more season of the show. We still think that we won't be seeing as much of Grissom as we're used to each week in order to accommodate Billy's theatrical schedule, but for a lot of Billy's fans, a little Grissom is better than no Grissom. Personally, we so enjoyed seeing him live on stage in A Dublin Carol, that we're willing to miss a little Grissom each week in exchange for the possibilities of seeing him in the theater more frequently in the future.

Here's an excerpt from the article at TV Guide:

"The evidence is in and it's irrefutable: Grissom will remain on the CSI beat for at least one more season — albeit with an asterisk.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that William Petersen — whose pact with the show was set to expire in May — has agreed to stick around through the 2008-09 TV season (and perhaps beyond). Although the specifics of his new deal were not disclosed, a CSIinsider tells me it's both lucrative (read: $$$) and brimming with "out" clauses (read: the asterisk I spoke of earlier).

In fact, Petersen already has his first "out" lined up: This fall, the actor will return to the stage in Conor McPherson's A Dublin Carol, which kicks off a six-week run in his hometown of Chicago in mid-November. As you'll recall, Petersen missed four episodes of CSI in early 2007 to headline a Rhode Island production of Dublin Carol. Shakespearean thesp Liev Schreiber stepped in to fill the Grissom void, only to get shot to death in his final episode."

William Petersen To Appear at Victory Gardens Theater in 2008-2009

According to Playbill.com:

"Victory Gardens Theater, the Tony Award-winning Chicago company with a unique mission to produce works by a stable of in-house playwrights, announced its 2008-09 season March 31.Actor William L. Petersen (TV's "CSI") will return to VGT in the coming season (in a to-be-announced project),"

Considering the recent news that Billy will also be performing on the Steppenwolf Theatre stage during the 2008-2009 season, returning to the role of John Plunkett in Connor McPherson's A Dublin Carol which he starred in at Providence's Trinity Repertory Theater during a sabbatical from CSI in 2006-2007, one has to wonder if Petersen is going to get a lot more time off from his role as Gil Grissom on CSI next season, or might be leaving the show all together. Of course, he could perform only during the summer and holiday hiatuses in order to continue starring as Grissom on CSI, but knowing how much time and effort goes into acting in a theatrical production, we at GSR: wouldn't be surprised if this turned out to be Billy's last season on the show. Only time will tell...

William Petersen Owns Highly-Prized Top 'Q Score' For TV Actors

According to a recent article found in the Miami Times:

"Television's top Q score -- a rating of a star's name recognition and likability, little known outside the industry but highly prized within it -- belongs not to any of the buff young cast members of Grey's Anatomy but to CSI's comfortable old shoe of a leading man, William Petersen, 55."

Jorja Fox didn't fare to poorly either. She's ranked 5th on the TV Actress Q score list. CSI as a whole did very well. George Eads and Marg Helgenberger's Q scores also placed them in the top five respectively:

Exclusive: CSI Boss Vows Jorja Fox is "Coming Back"

Now that Jorja Fox has officially confirmed the worst kept secret in the TV biz — she's ditching CSI next month after seven years in the forensics lab — we can start to focus on more important things in life. Like, you know, her return to the show! In her only interview, CSI's top gun, Carol Mendelsohn, weighs in on the circumstances surrounding Fox's exit, responds to published reports that she considered killing her off, previews tonight's big marriage proposal, and utters the words grieving fans have been dying to hear: Sara Sidle will be back.

Are you bummed that something couldn't be worked out to keep Jorja around?
Carol Mendelsohn: I am very bummed. You know, it's been something we've been facing for a while now [so] I've given it a lot of thought. When Jorja expressed her desire to move on — even though I would have loved nothing more than to have had her here for Season 8 and Season 9 and on — you [react] as you would in any family: You love the person and respect them and want them to be happy and fulfilled. If this was the very end for Sara Sidle on CSI, I don't think I could have handled the last few months. But it's not. Jorja was always No. 6 on our call sheet. We're retiring No. 6, so it's there for Jorja when she comes back.

She's definitely returning?
Mendelsohn: Yes. You can count on it.

This season?
Mendelsohn: That I can't say. But the fans will not have seen the last of Sara Sidle. Nor will Grissom.

Would you describe her departure as a mutual decision?
Mendelsohn: No. It was, in the end, Jorja's decision. And we accept it. I think sometimes the fans don't really understand that the writers are fans of the show, too. And we love Sara Sidle. We love writing for Sara Sidle. And, as an actor, it doesn't get better than Jorja. She's phenomenal. So, yeah, it's heartbreaking [for me], as well as for the cast and the crew. I'm almost tearing up now because it's very hard to say goodbye, even if it's [just] goodbye for now.

Did you know she was leaving before you shot the season finale last April?
Mendelsohn: Yes. I didn't have a definitive date, but yes.

There were reports that the original plan was to kill her off in the finale, but Jorja refused to show up to work and shoot her death scene. Is that true?
Mendelsohn: No… I don't, as a fan or a writer, embrace killing off characters — especially when you see this outpouring that we have gotten from the fans in support of keeping Jorja and Sara on the show; it has just been mind-boggling. [We] owe the fans so much and I don't think killing off Sara Sidle would have ever been a way to pay a satisfactory ending for Sara.

So what kind of send-off are you giving her?
Mendelsohn: I’m not telling you. [Laughs]

C'mon.
Mendelsohn: As the season unfolds through November, there is a character arc threaded through the episodes for Sara Sidle. And it is something that will build and build and build until the episode in which she departs, sometime in November.

Can you shed any light on the final scene, like who's in it with her?
Mendelsohn: Jorja is in it with Jorja.

She's by herself?
Mendelsohn: Yes.

What do you make of the intensity of the fan reaction to Jorja's exit?
Mendelsohn: It has been astounding. It's incredible how creative our fans are. We got two cases of chocolate covered insects with the message "CSI without Sara bugs us." We got a bouquet of red, pink and white balloons with Hershey kisses and the message was, "Don't break our hearts, keep Jorja Fox on CSI." We got two large cases of Lifesavers with the message, "You were Sara's lifesaver, now be ours, keep Jorja Fox on CSI." They've been sending money in from all over the world [as part of the] Dollars for Sense campaign. One woman named Kim West from Northern Ireland, she and her friends sent in 60 pound notes, and she wrote a four page letter. It's just been overwhelming how many people love Jorja.

Did you go back to her and beg her to reconsider?
Mendelsohn: I had done everything that I could. But in the end, I respect Jorja. This is something that she wanted to do, and I would never stand in her way. She's coming back at some point anyway.

How long before Grissom is ready to move on?
Mendelsohn: Oh my God. I don't think that Gil Grissom is the kind of guy that moves on quickly. I was thinking about how Gil Grissom thinks about time, and there's an Indian poet, Rabindranath Tagore, who said, "The butterfly counts not months, but moments." I think Grissom thinks about time that way. I wouldn't count on Gil Grissom moving on.

What about a little fling here and there?
Mendelsohn: Well, you know, gosh, I don't think of Grissom as a flingy kind of guy. Of course, there is Lady Heather... Grissom's family is the team, and moving forward, you know, that's what Grissom will focus on. His team. His family.

Speaking of Lady Heather, will she be back this season?
Mendelsohn: You know what? We haven't really talked about it. [But the door is] always open. We love Melinda Clarke.

What can you tell me about tonight's episode — specifically the marriage proposal?
Mendelsohn: It's very CSI-style. David Rambo wrote the scene and he and Jackie Hoyt wrote the episode. We have been talking for months about how to do this. And, originally at the beginning of the season, we had a plan to take Grissom and Sara back to San Francisco, because, as we all know, that's where they first met. And then last week, Grissom found this beehive and it just occurred to us what the scene should be, and I love it. I love it. And again, there are many, many more scenes between them in the last few episodes and they're all terrific.

Exclusive: More CSI Exits Looming?

In Part 1 of my interview with CSI boss lady Carol Mendelsohn, she swore that Grissom "will not have seen the last of Sara Sidle" after Jorja Fox departs next month. But what that statement doesn't address is the fact that by the time Sara returns, Grissom may already be gone. With contracts for the rest of the show's primary cast — William Petersen included — set to expire at the end of this season, he and other CSIers could follow Fox out the door. What does Mendelsohn have to say about that? Find out — and get the lowdown on who'll replace Grissom and Sara as the show's next super-couple — in this, the second part of our Q&A.

So, who'll fill the couple void left by Grissom-Sara?
Mendelsohn: The new couple may be [one who] sort of started last season that you may not suspect. We have someone who works in the lab and has an interest in another lab tech.

Ahhh… Hodges and Wendy. Interesting. There's been speculation about a possible Catherine-Warrick romance.
Mendelsohn: Clearly, among the team there's a lot of love. But it's kind of familial love. I think Grissom and Sara was a very, very special case.

So nothing's going to develop between Warrick and Catherine?
Mendelsohn: I'm not saying it's not. But that is a friendship that we developed from the beginning of the series. We don't sit in the writers room and say, "What relationship are we gonna have now?" We were totally invested, all of us, in Grissom and Sara.

It's no secret that the contracts of the rest of your main cast will be expiring soon. Is it possible we may be losing more CSIs in the near future?
Mendelsohn: I suppose anything is possible, but I hope that doesn't happen. I think one of the strengths of CSI and one of the pleasures of doing this job is that we have all been together from the beginning. I would love for us to all continue to be together.

Do you know where things stand? I imagine talks have already begun.
Mendelsohn: As show-runners, we're responsible for the creative direction of the show; we are not responsible for contract negotiations.

Fair enough. Do you see CSI as the type of show that can weather major cast changes, as ER and Law & Order have?
Mendelsohn: Yes. I felt from Day 1 of CSI that the show itself was a living, breathing entity, separate and apart from any of us.... The show is so strong that it could get along without any one of us. That means me or [fellow executive producer] Naren [Shankar] or any producer or writer or cast member. But Gil Grissom is the soul of the show. Gil Grissom is an incredible character. And, you know, it's hard…. I have difficulty thinking about CSI without Grissom and Catherine and Warrick and Nick. But I do believe that people love the show, too, and it could go on. But that doesn't mean it should or we want it to. It's weird. When a show goes on this long, some people start getting itchy feet and want to move on. And I think all of us realized that creatively — and this is separate and apart from anyone's personal decisions about wanting to try other things — we couldn't be more excited or more inspired to be working on this show. We're very lucky that way. Creatively, it's a good place. And I hope that means we'll all stay together.

Will Bill be taking another little mini-hiatus this season?
Mendelsohn: I anticipate as the series goes on, yes, he will want to do that, and we'll figure out a creative way for that to happen.

Any plans to extend Jessica Lucas' stay?
Mendelsohn: We haven't made that decision yet. I absolutely love Jessica, and I love the character of Ronnie Lake. We've got some great episodes with Ronnie coming up. I would say it's a pretty good bet there'll be a Ronnie in our future.

Warrick Brown

The only member of the team born and raised in Las Vegas. To this day, Warrick has never met his father. His mother passed away when Warrick was seven, leaving Warrick in the care of his maternal grandmother. He grew up in a strict household, and that meant he kept his position as a runner a secret from his grandmother. Warrick was quite literally born to live in Vegas. He loves the casinos, loves the action, loves the pulse of the city. He can move just as easily through the Clark County courthouse as he can through the Sportsbook at Hard Rock.

To let off steam, he DJs at clubs run by his friends, and writes his own songs. Spending his whole life in the city means Warrick knows at least one person in every bar, club, and hotel in the city. He’s connected, and he uses those connections to move between his worlds. He went through a lot of women in his early twenties, but the first time he fell in love, the woman broke his heart. He now looks at women with a cautious eye. Warrick knows how all the games are played in Las Vegas and is aware of the universal truth of the city – the only one who wins consistently is the house because the odds are stacked. Warrick’s got enough of a rebel in him to challenge those odds, and enough of a realist in him to know the only one watching out for him is him, so he’ll cut his losses to fight again another day if need be.

Worked as a casino runner throughout his teenage years. He put himself through college working as a taxi driver, a bell captain at the Sahara, selling helicopter rides over the Grand Canyon, and a grave digger before finding his way to the LVPD and CSI.

Sara Sidle

Sara Sidle was born and raised an hour and half outside San Francisco on Tamalas Bay. Sara was an only child of ex-hippies running a bed and breakfast. Everything about her as a child was outsized: her intelligence, her energy and her curiosity. Unlike her parents, Sara always maintained perfect self-discipline When she was a child Sara’s mother killed her father. Sara was pretty much all-or-nothing in high school, and as talented as she was, grace didn’t come with the package. The other kids resented her.

At eighteen, Sara found a place where she could be at home. She went to Harvard and enjoyed four of the best years of her life. She took as many classes as she could. She went to as many parties as she could and she finally dated. She attended graduate school in theoretical physics before realizing that she was to wild for a life of academic scrutiny. One year later, she got a job in the San Francisco coroner’s office and spent five years there gaining unofficial education in forensic science. After that, she transferred to the San Francisco crime lab. During the time she was there she went to the Forensic Academy Conference and saw Gil Grissom for the first time. Later on Grissom contacted Sara and asked her to come to Las Vegas.

Sara has a single flaw: people. She can solve and problem, in the world, except the problem of other people and how she’s supposed to relate to them. As an outcome she hides in her job. She pursues her career, perhaps more so then any of the other CSIs. Partly as she’s still rebelling against her parents casual approach to social obligations and partly since she’s afraid of what she might find out about herself if she ever slowed down. As a CSI Sara’s specialty is materials and element analysis.

JORJA FOX
Jorja Fox (born Jorja-An Fox July 7, 1968 in New York, New York) is an American actress. She is best known for having played major roles in three successful television dramas: ER (1994), The West Wing (1999) and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (2000-present).
In 2003, she was ranked #80 in Stuff magazine's list of the 103 sexiest women. She is annually nominated for PETA's "World's Sexiest Vegetarian".

Jorja Fox was born in New York City, the youngest child of Montreal-born parents, and was raised on a narrow barrier island in Melbourne Beach, Florida. Jorja Fox describes herself as being overweight while growing up, with a prominent gap between her teeth. Over the years she had a variety of strange items stuck between her two front teeth, including a quarter [1] and some rocks.[2] By her twenties, neither her wisdom teeth nor braces had appreciably helped, and Jorja said "forget it". [3]
After attending Melbourne High School for two years, she began a modeling career after winning a local contest. Subsequently she enrolled as a drama student at the Lee Strasberg Institute in New York, under the tutelage of actor William Hickey.

After appearing in several minor films and TV series, inlcuding a 1993 episode of Law & Order, Fox entered the limelight in 1996 when she appeared (originally as "Jorjan Fox") on the hit NBC television series ER, as the no-nonsense medical vegetarian intern Maggie Doyle. This recurring character was eventually revealed to be a lesbian; playing up that fame, Fox appeared on the coming out episode of Ellen ("The Puppy Episode Part 2", 30 April 1997).
Fox went on to appear in the movies Velocity Trap and Food for the Heart. In 1999, she was cast as another recurring character: Secret Service Agent Gina Toscano on NBC's series The West Wing. She also appeared briefly in Christopher Nolan's Memento, playing Guy Pearce's wife in occasional flashbacks.

In 2000 she became one of the lead characters of the CBS series CSI, in which she portrays a Las Vegas forensic scientist called Sara Sidle.
Fox is the co-founder of Honeypot Productions, an independent avant-garde theatre company in Los Angeles. The company has produced five original plays, four of them written by Jorja. The fourth play, Lovely Stanley, is a comedic romp about the women's bowling circuit.[4] Her friend and HoneyPot co-founder Heather Reid wrote Dear Bernard, which Fox helped produce.
Fox is also a musician: she plays guitar (badly, she says) and recently purchased a drum kit. She also sings and writes songs, most notably the song "Lullabye" for the movie Traveling Companion, as well as the song "Satellite" which she published on her official web site. Jorja and CSI co-star Marg Helgenberger sang "Stand by Me" as a duet for What a Pair 4!!, an annual charity event to raise money for breast cancer research.
She currently resides in Los Angeles with her dog Ali and two cats, Rumplestiltskin and Sid Poitier.

Controversy
She and CSI co-star George Eads received some bad publicity in 2004 when they were fired. Fox had allegedly failed to submit a letter to CBS confirming that she would be on time for shooting. The disputes were resolved in just over a week, and the two were rehired by CBS; however, neither actor's salary was raised like the rest of their co-workers. It was also reported that of the two, Fox was approached first to resume her contract with CSI - but she refused until Eads was rehired as well.[7]
On April 18, 2007, TV Guide began reporting that Jorja Fox may not be returning for the eighth season of CSI, having not yet signed a new contract.[8] The season finale turned out to be a cliffhanger involving her character, Sara Sidle.[9] The New York Post reported that Jorja did not show up to film the finale because of ongoing issues over her employment.[10] Neither CBS nor Jorja's agent have confirmed the allegations.
In September 2007, after rumors emerged about Fox's departure from the show[11], an online forum called "Your Tax Dollars At Work", that has about fifteen-thousand members, started a campaign to keep Sara Sidle on CSI, the campaign (called Dollars for Sense) includes mailing the show's producers a dollar so as to keep Fox on the show. Nick Stokes

The last child in a family of seven, Nick was born into law enforcement. His father worked as the state D.A. before being appointed to the bench. Two years ago, Nick’s father was appointed to the Texas State Supreme Court. Nick’s mother has spent her entire adult life working as a public defender. They have been happily-married for 45 years. With one brother and five sisters, Nick had a lot of people looking out for him. Maybe that’s why everything feels so personal to Nick. He has no distance from his work because he’s always been close to people. Where Sara struggles with relationships, Nick can’t help himself. Being with and around people is so easy for him. What’s hard is balancing the unspoken but competing perspectives of his parents.

He wants to live up to their expectations, and becoming a CSI was one way of finding a compromise. Being a cop was too much for his father. As a CSI, he’s objective. He still has social responsibility to uphold, but does his job without an agenda. The evidence speaks and everyone has to respect what it says, both public defenders as well as judges on the bench. Nick could still be in Texas, but he chose to move two states over. There’s a part of Nick that loves his family and his family name, but there’s a part of him that wants to be on his own, to lay down his own roots and establish his own identity. What he’s finding is that roots don’t take quickly. Growing them is a slow process fraught with mistakes…and Nick isn’t finished.

Spent his first three years out of college on the Dallas police force, then transferred to the Dallas crime lab, spending one year as CSI Level One before transferring to Las Vegas.

George Eades

George Coleman Eads III (born March 1, 1967) is an American actor, best known for his role as Nick Stokes on the CBS crime drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

Personal life
Eads was born in Fort Worth, Texas and grew up in Belton, Texas, 130 miles south of Fort Worth. His father is Arthur Coleman "Cappy" Eads, and his mother is Vivian Baker. Eads' stepfather, Dudley Baker, is a gynecologist. George graduated from Belton High School in 1985 and from Texas Tech University in 1990 with a degree in marketing, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Prior to beginning an acting career Eads used to work as a copy machine salesman.
Eads has a sister, Angela Eads Tekell, who is an attorney in Waco, Texas. He has two Harley Davidsons, a Porsche 911 and a silver Cadillac Escalade, and a yellow labrador retriever named Maverick. He also owns High Rise Apartments on Cloverfield Blvd in Santa Monica.

CAREER
To pursue his acting career, he headed to Los Angeles, California, in a pickup truck borrowed from his stepfather. When he arrived in Los Angeles, he could only drive during the day because the truck had two broken headlights. Eads got his big break on the primetime soap opera Savannah. Though his character died in the pilot episode, Eads was so popular that producers continued to use him via flashbacks and eventually brought him back as the character's identical twin.[1]
Afterwards, Eads guest-starred on ER, and worked on several made-for television films like Crowned and Dangerous with Yasmine Bleeth in 1997.
In 2000 Eads became one of the lead characters of the CBS series CSI, in which he portrays a Las Vegas forensic scientist called Nick Stokes.
Parallel to CSI, Eads has worked on some more made-for television films, such as 2003 Monte Walsh, with Isabella Rossellini, and 2004 Evel Knievel, where he played Evel Knievel.

Controversy
Eads was the subject of severe publicity alongside fellow CSI co-star Jorja Fox in 2004, when they were fired, allegedly over contract disputes. Eads was reported to be hours late for work on the first day of filming for the fifth season, claiming to have merely overslept, and Fox had allegedly failed to submit a letter to CBS confirming that she would be on time for shooting. The disputes were resolved in just over a week, and the two were rehired by CBS, though neither actor received the pay increase of their fellow cast members.
Eads also received unfavorable press with regard to his 2006 visit to Australia. Eads was scheduled to appear at the Australian equivalent of the Emmys - the Logies. His publicist called the organizers two hours before the event to state that Eads "didn't like red carpets." He also reportedly indulged in several flings with local soap opera stars. The head of publicity for the event, Jamie Campbell, stated that with guests like Eads, "you certainly earn your money."[2]

A robbery at a grocery store results in a shootout leaving five dead. The police officer at the scene believes Grissom has a grudge against him. The entire team has to process the enormous amount of evidence at the scene.

The whole team must investigate a crime where a husband and his porn star wife were murdered execution style. Things get personal for Catherine when Grissom talks to her about her evaluation. Brass believes that Sara may have some type of problem.

Catherine and Sara deal with the death of what at first seems to be a transvestite. Later during autopsy they find out that the make-up he seemed to be wearing was actually facepaint, he was a clown. Grissom, Nick, and Warrick deal with the death of a man in a homeless area. They found out he worked in a recovery center for drug users.

A mutilated female body is discovered tied to the undercarriage of a bus carrying prisoners from a women's correctional facility after a severed arm flies out from beneath the vehicle and strikes a car. Catherine leads the investigation and at first believes the woman was escaping, but the evidence increasingly points to murder. Back in town, Warrick probes the death of a gambler who was stabbed multiple times in his brother's kitchen.

A violent murder in a casino parking garage and another episode in the police interview room lead the CSIs to one shocking discovery after another. The case involves a missing woman, a long dead body and a missing child.

Warrick, Catherine, and Nick try to determine the cause of a house fire that kills a teenage girl. The fire is in the same neighborhood as a similar arson fire. Grissom and Sara investigate a man found dead with letter tiles in his stomach. The man was a competitor in a word game tournament.

Grissom, Catherine and Nick investigate the death of a runner during a competition. Meanwhile Sara and Warrick investigate the death of couple in a hotel room, initially thought to be a murder-suicide. Both cases take place during this 'cop' competition , with more than 20.000 attendants (all of them cops). This gives the investigations an interesting turn, as almost all the suspects and all dead people are cops.

90. Turn of the Screws

A roller coaster runs off its track, leaving six people dead. The CSI team investigates whether this was an accident or foul play. One of the deaths, however, is not what it seems, and this takes the case in an unexpected direction. Meanwhile, Catherine and Warrick investigate the death of a 13-year old girl whose body was dumped unceremoniously outside town.

91. No More Bets

Two young men are found murdered after scamming Sam Braun's casinos. Because of her relationship with Braun, Grissom refuses to allow Catherine to participate in the case, leaving the rest of the team to solve the mystery. One of the suspects is the son of a man who was black-listed for cheating years ago in Sam Braun's casinos. Sara finds out that Grissom recommended Nick for the promotion that she wanted.

92. Bloodlines

A casino employee is beaten and raped on her way home from work, but she survives and identifies her attacker. Unfortunately, a DNA test sets him free and Grissom must wrestle with whether evidence can ever lie. Later, Grissom comes to the rescue of a coworker who ends up on the other side of the law.

60. One Hit Wonder

Catherine takes the point in the investigation of an escalating series of peeping tom incidents. The crew is racing to stop the attacker before his crimes become more serious assaults. Meanwhile, Sara reopens the dormant case of her friend, a district attorney. The DA is facing surgery to remove a bullet she got in an attack that killed her husband three years prior.

Grissom and crew are called in after high roller Tony Braun, a known drug addict, is found dead in his house by a gardener. Since drug paraphernalia is discovered near his body and it is also determined that he had recently inhaled heroin, the cause of death is at first thought to be an overdose. But further examination of the corpse reveals that Braun had been restrained at some point with duct tape, leading Grissom to believe that the victim was forced to ingest lethal amounts of heroin and, perhaps, other drugs.

25. Chaos Theory
First aired: 10/4/2001 Production Code: 202
The entire CSI team investigates a disappearance at a local university. A young woman vanished, seemingly off the face of the earth. Forensics leads them to possible suspects, and possible suspects all have probable motives, but nothing seems to pan out. This leads our team to discuss the "Chaos Theory." When combined, many seemingly-innocuous events may have a deadly outcome. And closure is not always within reach.

26. Overload

Grissom investigates a possible suicide at a high-profile construction site. Against the wishes of the Sheriff, Grissom pushes to get at the truth of the matter-he thinks the suicide was actually a homicide, and uses theories on electrocution to look for his killer. Meanwhile, Nick and Catherine take on a case with little more than angora fibers to follow. A teenage boy dies while in session with his female psychologist, and traces of angora on his underwear make them believe the psychologist may be practicing very unconventional methods of "therapy."

When the class clown at the local high school is found murdered, the CSI team is called to investigate, while Nick and Sara respond to the crime scene of a decomposed body found in a bag. The student, who is also the top jock on campus, is found shot in the back in the school bathroom. The CSI team quickly discovers that the victim was also the class bully, and Grissom is convinced that he is looking for a classmate who was finally pushed to end the abuse once and for all. The team uses sophisticated new equipment to track the scent the killer left behind. Meanwhile, Sara and Nick investigate a case involving a severely decomposed body of an Army veteran found in a bag.

28. Scuba Doobie-Doo

Grissom, Sara and Warrick are called on to investigate an abandoned, blood-splattered apartment and Nick and Catherine must examine a dead scuba diver lodged in a tree. Warrick heads the investigation of the murder of a con artist who turns out to be involved with Brass' daughter, and the evidence leads Sara on a counterfeit investigation. With Grissom away, Warrick is in charge for the first time as the team investigates the murder of the con artist, who has run off with some tourists' money only to get shot and killed in the parking lot. The prime suspect in the case turns out to be Captain Brass' daughter, which causes Brass to take himself off the investigation professionally, but not personally. Meanwhile, the physical evidence in the case leads Sara to investigate a high-end counterfeit operation after the money found on the victim turns out to be bogus.

34. Organ Grinder

The CSI team is called in when a famous real estate entrepreneur is found dead in a hotel elevator. When the body of Bob Fairmont, the real estate developer, is found, the team discovers that the crime scene has been tampered with and that the victim has been re-dressed. After tracing the cause of death to a lethal poison, the team is shocked to discover that Fairmont's organs have already been removed and donated, making the case a bit more difficult to solve.

35. You've Got Male

Grissom and Sara are called to the crime scene when two murder victims are found hidden in pipes at a construction site in the middle of an alfalfa field, while Catherine and Nick investigate an ostensible hunting accident. The investigation of the construction site murder reveals that the victims were sisters and the relationship of one of the sisters to a former prison inmate is a cause for suspicion -- especially when his presence is traced to the scene of the crime. Meanwhile, Catherine and Nick begin to doubt seriously that the body found in the woods was the victim of a hunting accident.

36. Identity Crisis

Grissom's nemesis, serial killer Paul Millander (Matt O'Toole), reappears and claims a third victim in this gripping episode. The latest slaying matches Millander's previous killings in that it recreates his father's murder, which Millander witnessed as a boy. In each case, the victim is shot once through the chest while lying in a bathtub. A nearby tape recorder contains the person's supposed suicide message. All three victims share the same birthday of Aug. 17---the date Millander's father was slain---with the years in descending order from 1959. So presumably, the killer's next target was born Aug. 17, 1956...which just happens to be Grissom's birthday.

37. The Finger

Catherine is ordered by a kidnapper to accompany a man who is to deliver $1 million in ransom to him or else he will kill the man's mistress. But when the million is paid, they learn that his mistress is already dead

38. Burden of Proof

Grissom investigates the murder of a Las Vegas photographer whose remains were dumped at a nearby body farm where CSIs routinely study corpses, and his findings reveal that the man was apparently shot to death even though there are no bullet fragments in the body. Also, Grissom's leadership is questioned by some members of his staff.

39. Primum Non Nocere
First aired: 2/28/2002 Production Code: 216
When Terry Rivers barrels into the opposing team's goalie, a fight breaks out and Terry ends up at the bottom of a huge pile of bodies. After the players are separated, he is found dead...with a deep, bloody gash across his neck. Grissom, Catherine and Sara are called in to investigate. Across town, Warrick and Nick look into the apparent drug-related death of a sax player at a casino. While working on the case, Warrick finds himself drawn to a rising young singer who worked with the dead musician.

40. Felonius Monk

Grissom investigates the murders of four monks who were shot point blank while chanting in a Buddhist temple; Catherine reopens a cold case in which her best friend was murdered, after the man convicted of the crime claims he's innocent shortly before he dies.

41. Chasing the Bus

A bus carrying 23 passengers from Los Angeles to Las Vegas crashes less than 40 miles from its destination, killing nine people. Before he dies, the driver recalls that, moments before the wreck, the steering wheel began vibrating like a jackhammer in his hands, making it impossible for him to control the speeding vehicle. When the bus finally did come to a stop, it was on its right side on top of a sports car that was following it. At the scene, the CSIs discover that a recent parolee was on the bus, but is now unaccounted for---and that there's evidence of foul play.

42. Stalker

Jane Galloway is a nervous breakdown waiting to happen. She has completely shielded herself from the outside world, but that doesn't stop a stalker in her attic from killing her. When CSI arrives, they find her hair dyed and her face shoved in the toilet. This image has a heavy impact on Nick, and they soon realize that this stalker is well acquainted with Nick, which makes the CSI the next target.

43. Cats in the Cradle

Grissom and Catherine investigate the stabbing death of an 80-year-old woman who lived in a run-down house full of cats; Nick and Sara comb through the remains of a car bombing that was, apparently, a murder plot gone awry.

44. Anatomy of a Lye

Grissom and Sara investigate when a man's body, which has been doused with lye, is found buried in a park; Nick tries to determine how a hiker apparently drowned in a desert.

45. Cross-Jurisdictions

Grissom and his crew handle their highest profile case to date when the city's former chief of detectives is slain execution-style in his house following a wild party. Missing from the residence are the chief's trophy wife and their 7-year-old daughter. When several motorists report seeing the girl along an access road near Miami, Catherine and Warrick fly there and meet that city's top CSI, Horatio Caine, who aids them in the investigation.

46. The Hunger Artist
First aired: 5/16/2002 Production Code: 223
Season Finale. The CSIs investigate when the body of an unidentified young woman is discovered stuffed in an overturned shopping cart near a freeway underpass. Her horribly disfigured and partially decomposed face is a nightmare of blood, scabs and scars, as if she'd been shoved into a fan. A huge circular hole dominates her left cheek. Someone not only wanted her dead, Grissom reasons, but "they wanted her ugly." Adding to the mystery are the cart's other contents: an expensive handbag, fashion magazines and a leather day planner with notes written in code.

CSI SEASON 1

1. Pilot

Gil Grissom is the supervisor of the graveyard shift of Las Vegas' elite crime scene investigators. Holly Gribbs, fresh out of the academy, joins the team. Jim Brass is head of the unit and is trying to scare Gribbs from CSI. Catherine Willows, mother of a young daughter, is the number two CSI on this shift. Warrick Brown and Nick Stokes are competing to solve their 100th case to earn a promotion to CSI 3. Grissom investigates a murder staged to look like a suicide with precious little evidence. Warrick and Catherine take the case of a drunk who breaks into the house where he had been staying and is shot to death. Nick talks to a man who picked up a woman who drugged and robbed him.

2. Cool Change Sara arrives (jorja Fox)

A man is killed after winning a fortune and then dumping his girlfriend. So, Grissom, Nick, and newcomer to the CSI team, Sara Sidle, investigate this one. Holly Gribbs is in the hospital and Warrick is up for suspension for leaving her at the crime scene by herself. Holly later dies in the hospital, but Grissom doesn't suspend Warrick.

8. Anonymous

Royce Harmon was murdered 3 months ago in a scene staged to look like a suicide. Now another murder has taken place. Whoever the killer is he has a thorough knowledge of forensics, he purposefully has left evidence, and has baffled Grissom and his team. Warrick and Nick investigate the case of a man who went over a cliff in his car and is now unconscious.

9. Unfriendly Skies

Grissom and his team investigate the death of a first class passenger on a flight to Las Vegas. The investigators are forced not only to examine the physical evidence, but also to interview all of the first class passengers to get their personal accounts of the incident.

Grissom and Sara investigate a bug riddled body found in the desert. Warrick and Catherine look in to the theft of some valuable art. Nick gets to find out why a missing woman's car is found at the bus station. Warrick is suspected of having gambled on duty.

11. I-15 Murders

A woman is abducted from a supermarket. In the store, Grissom finds a bathroom stall door that claims five women have been killed. Warrick is caught in a casino on duty and is paired with a reluctant Sara. Their case is the apparent murder and robbery of a man who is found be his brother. Nick gets pulled in by his prostitute friend who gets in a scuffle with hotel security.

12. Fahrenheit 932

A man about to go on trial for arson and the murder of his wife and child seeks assistance from Grissom to help prove his innocence. Meanwhile, Catherine and Nick investigate the underground world of sports gambling when a teenager is murdered at close range.

13. Boom

A bomb goes off in an office building killing one and injuring many more. The chief suspect is a security guard who left minutes before the explosion and has knowledge in bomb making. Nick helps his prostitute friend again. After giving in to his passion, she is found dead the next morning. Naturally, Nick is a suspect and to make it worse, Ecklie has the case.

14. To Halve and to Hold

When a single human bone is discovered in the desert, Grissom and Catherine must cover miles of territory to find the rest of the skeleton. And Warrick and Sara trace the death of a male stripper to members of a wedding party who may have celebrated a little too hard the night before the nuptials.

15. Table Stakes

At a swanky fundraiser, attended by the sheriff, a woman turns up dead in the pool. The owner of the house is away and a young couple is housesitting. Warrick looks into an apparent professional hit in the glass elevator of one of the hotels.

16. Too Tough to Die GSR INTERACTION (of some sorts)
First aired: 3/1/2001 Production Code: 115
A woman is abducted from a mall parking garage. She's raped, beaten, shot and left for dead. Sara collects evidence from her and grows attached to her. Nick and Grissom analyze the crime scene. Catherine and Warrick are given boxes of evidence from a shooting that goes to trial in four days. The CSI who had the case has quit and they have to prove what happened. To make Catherine's life more complicated, Eddie has taken out a second mortgage without her knowledge.

17. Face Lift
First aired: 3/8/2001 Production Code: 116
A body is found in a pottery store in what's apparently a robbery that was interrupted. Fingerprints at the scene seem to match a twenty year old kidnapping case. Sara and Warrick look into a case where a woman burned to death in her home. The woman was burned to an ash but only the chair she was in was burned, the rest of the house is fine. Sara believes they have a case of spontaneous combustion.

18. $35K O.B.O.
First aired: 3/29/2001 Production Code: 117
A couple leaving a restaurant on their anniversary are killed in the street and their car is stolen. The crime scene is compromised when it rains shortly after the CSIs arrive. It gets more mysterious when the car is found and it becomes a new crime scene. Catherine looks into the collapse of a city owned residence that kills three elderly women. She runs into problems with the city engineer responsible for the building.

The entire team investigate the abduction of the infant child of a well to do family. Suspicion immediately falls on the child's parents.

Two women run over a deaf man but they didn't kill him- he was already dead. Grissom has to find out who did it and he's not getting help from the deaf man's school. Catherine and Nick investigate an apparent mob hit that leaves five dead in a coffee shop.

21. Justice is Served

Grissom, Nick, and Warrick take the case of a jogger who was killed by a wild animal in the park. It gets complicated when they discover that the jogger had his liver removed after he was killed. Catherine and Sara investigate the death of a six year old girl at shady carnival.

22. Evaluation Day

On the day Grissom has to evaluate his team, a head is found in the trunk of a car. While Gil and Catherine work on the head, Sara and Nick investigate a body in the desert that's missing it's head. Warrick looks into a murder in juvenile detention in which his young friend James is the only witness.

23. The Strip Strangler

The team is investigating the ongoing murders by a signature killer. The killer has some knowledge of forensics and has left little evidence behind. With the investigation somewhat stalled, the sheriff invites the FBI to join the case. This makes Grissom angry and it only gets worse when Sara offers to bait the killer.

Born to a single mother in an era when everyone came from a two-parent household, Robbins spent his life as an underdog. Spurned by his peers, he took solace in books from an early age, discovering an aptitude for academia. His mother worked as a nurse, so Robbins spent most nights in the local hospital. The doctors and nurses unofficially adopted him, and they not only gave him free rein of the premises, they allowed him to assist in any number of activities the chronically short-handed facility required. From stocking shelves as a ten-year-old, to assisting in simple surgeries as a teenager, Robbins knew more about the hospital than some of the doctors who worked there. And he put that knowledge to work when he opened his own clinic.

Many years of fighting the good fight eventually left him drained, and after shifting into what felt like a natural career change for him (medicine is all about life and death), he and his wife and their three children packed up and moved to Las Vegas. He’s free to pursue his own interests, both at work and at home, and that’s the way he likes it right now. His medical career has somewhat followed the path he envisioned for himself, but his personal life has far exceeded his wildest expectations. His wife and his children have replaced books as the center of his life and nothing will ever change that.

After completing his residency at Johns Hopkins, Robbins opened a clinic in the inner harbor area of Baltimore. He worked as a general practitioner for 20 years before the chronic budget shortfalls and the practices of the newly powerful HMOs forced him to close the clinic’s doors. Strictly out of academic curiosity, he became an assistant coroner for the Arlington, VA, police department, where he worked his way up to coroner in two years. After putting in four years in Arlington, he transferred to Las Vegas. He has been the chief medical examiner in Las Vegas for the past five years.

Detective Jim Brass (Paul Guifoyle)

Brass was born into a middle-class family in Newark. When the riots hit in the mid-sixties, Brass was in college. Something about the injustice made him decide on a career in law enforcement. He approached his job with the zeal of a reformer, and at first Brass gained a great deal of notoriety for his tenacious investigative style. Unfortunately, tenacious investigators tend to be indiscriminate. When they see someone do something wrong, they go after the crime. Even if the criminals are cops. And that’s what happened to Brass. He became a Serpico-like figure in New Jersey. He cleaned up the department and the effort cost him his marriage and what little relationship he had with his daughter.

When the dust cleared, Brass headed for Second Chance City, landing at CSI. He could get his fix of the investigative process without having to expend any personal capital. His life gently slid into strip bars and J and B doubles and all was well enough until a young newbie named Holly Gribbs showed up. Her death cost Brass his job and in some ways his peace of mind. Since she died, he’s been transferred back to homicide. He’s not sure if he likes it, but it’s familiar and it’s easy, and that’ll do for the short term. The long term is irrelevant for Brass, because he stopped believing in the future long ago.

Brass spent 20 years working his way up to homicide detective in New Jersey. He transferred out of Homicide and out of New Jersey 10 years ago and came to Las Vegas. He eventually came to run the CSI department, more as an administrator than as an investigator.

Catherine Willows

Catherine was born on a ranch in western Montana. She was the eldest daughter of fourth-generation ranchers, but the rural life was never for her. Catherine could ride before she could walk, but horses were always for taking her away from work. She left home for the first time as a sixteen-year-old. She lived in Seattle for a year with her would-be rock-star boyfriend, eking out a living as a waitress. When he left her for an older woman, she went home…to find home wasn’t there anymore. Her parents had been forced to sell their ranch and moved to town. They made it clear that Catherine was on her own.

The next stop for Catherine was Las Vegas. She waited tables until she discovered a much more lucrative line of work: exotic dancing. The men loved her and the money poured in. Catherine spent it all on school and the aspiring career of her music-producing boyfriend, Eddie. Dating turned to engagement which turned to marriage. When their turbulent quasi-romance ended, Eddie left her with ten dollars in the bank, a coke habit, and a small child, Lindsey. Catherine pulled it together for her own sake and for the sake of her daughter. She didn’t become a CSI because she wanted to right the wrongs of the world - she became a CSI because it makes her feel like a kid solving puzzles. She loves the challenge and she loves the buzz of working a case. It’s a high for her - and anything that makes Catherine feel as good as she does can’t be all bad.

Willow worked as an exotic dancer on the Strip in her early 20s while going to college. A young filed services officer named Grissom recruited her to work at the lab. She started as an assistant technician and has worked her way up over a decade to become a CSI Level Three.
